This spring/summer we are working with the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation to offer six young people the opportunity to take part in a pilot project, taking participants from novice to golfer within a six month period.

Rightly or wrongly, golf has traditionally been seen as a sport only played by the white middle-classes.  Our goal is to change that perception and to see people from all backgrounds participating in this great game, particularly from groups under-represented in the golfing world.

Participants on this six month programme will:

​

- receive weekly coaching with a professional golf coach at Horton Golf Park, which is just outside Epsom

- take part in the 'Succeed with Stan' mentorship programme

- learn the basics of the game, moving from complete beginner to competent golfer

​

Transportation will be provided from Carshalton Beeches, and all equipment will be provided.

​

This programme is completely free of charge to those fortunate enough to be selected.  However, a programme of this nature os a substantial investment and participants must be committed to attending each week, to putting in the effort to improve and also to abide by a strict code of conduct.

Who can apply?

​

To apply you must be:

- aged 11-16 years old

- be a newcomer to golf (if you have played a few times before that is fine, but we are not looking for current golf club members)

- live in the Carshalton area

- be able to provide a compelling reason why you shoud be chosen to participate

If your application is successful you will progress on to the second stage of the recruitment process, which is an interview with the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation.  If you pass this stage you will be invited to join the programme, with a view to starting in May 2025, with coaching sessions happening on Wednesday evening starting at 4.30 or 5.00pm at Horton Golf Park.  Decisions on successful applications are at the discretion of SSMF staff.
